Institute of Criminology

The Institute of Criminology is one of the nine permanent institutes of the Academy of Criminal Legal Sciences. Its predecessor was the Institute of Criminology and Criminal Policy established when the Academy of Criminal Sciences was established in 2005. It currently has 6 full-time team members.

As a specialized research and teaching institution in the direction of criminology, the Institute of Criminology relies on the overall advantages of the criminal law discipline group of the Academy of Criminal Sciences, adheres to the major practical needs and cutting-edge theoretical development in the criminal field as the center, and conducts multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research. A series of influential academic achievements have been achieved in basic theory, juvenile crime, corporate (domestic) crime prevention, corporate compliance, corruption crimes, terrorist crimes and sexual crimes. It has gradually formed research characteristics that break down disciplinary barriers, highlight problem orientation, base itself on experience and methods, and serve social practice.

In terms of scientific research, in addition to rich academic works, members of the institute have undertaken many important national-level projects such as the national key R & D plan project "Functional Assessment of Duty Crimes and Research on Key Technologies for Prevention"; among the consultation reports submitted, Some have also received affirmative instructions from party and state leaders, contributing to enhancing the influence of the criminal discipline of Beijing Normal University and promoting crime governance practices in related fields.

In terms of teaching,"Criminology" edited by Zhang Yuanhuang was selected into the national planning textbook for undergraduate courses in general higher education during the 12th Five-Year Plan;"Special Research on Criminology" written by Zhang Yuanhuang and Wu Zongxian is a postgraduate textbook for colleges and universities in the 21st century;"Special Research on Criminology and Criminal Policy" is an excellent school-level postgraduate course at Beijing Normal University.
